Andrea has asked that I tell about the proposal, so be prepared for my side, unabridged, unedited, and uncut:
Since the beginning of September when we both knew we were going to get married, I was constantly trying to come up with the most elaborate, romantic, and memorable plan of attack on how to propose. I was planning a proposal for someone who plans huge events for a living, so I knew I would be fighting an uphill battle. My first thought was to wait until Thanksgiving, use the increased excitement for the holidays, have family in town, the whole works. That plan was a quick fail as I realized once I bought the ring that I would not be able to wait until the end of November to ask her to marry me. Not only was it burning a hole in my pocket, then the filing cabinet at work, and finally tucked away in my desk at home, but Andrea was dressing up ever time we were together. I had invited her over to watch football on a Monday night; I was wearing my Chicago Bear's shirt, and a hoodie, and she was dressed to the T. I realized that she was getting antsy as well. My next plan was to propose at her Halloween party. Unconventional yes, but she had mentioned multiple times that this was one of her favorite holidays and she was eager to plan her party. This one failed as well, she decided to guess that I would propose then, so I had to come up with another idea. I knew she would instanly assume I would propose if I planned a romantic date, so I tried to plan another get together with our friends. I thought that a pumpkin carving contest would be fun, I could carve a heart into a pumpkin ahead of time and hang the ring through the middle, then switch that one out at end so she would have no idea it was coming. Her immediate reaction was to guess I would propose at this party as well, so I was, needless to say, shocked and being driven crazy!
Now to the actual proposal. Andrea and I had decided to stay up at her parent's house over the General Conference weekend. She has such a love for her family, and they all interact and get along so well, that I knew I would propose this weekend. I brought the ring, carefully hidden in my bag, and was wating until Sunday afternoon to pop the question. As that afternoon approached I was about as nervous as could be. I had secretly shown her mother and sister the ring already, and informed them and her father I was planning on proposing in the backyard. After the morning conference session we headed outside to the back porch, I was being quite careful not to hint or show any signs I was thinking of proposing or that I even had the ring with me, so I suggested that we take a nap on the hammock in the backyard. We sat out there and talked for a while. I asked if she was sure she wanted to spend an eternity with me, and hope she understood that if our children were anything like me, that we would be in for quite a ride. She reiterated that she in fact was in love with me and wanted to marry me, so I asked if she minded waiting for me to propose. I told her I wanted to let my parents have more time to soak in the idea, that I wanted to wait for them to meet her. I could tell her slight disappointment as she was hoping it would be much sooner than that. Then I told her I had thought about her family, how much I care and respect them, and I wanted them to be a part of when I propose. Little did she know that her sister was taking pictures of us from the back porch, and her father was watching for the moment as well. I slid off the hammock, got down on one knee, told her I loved her, then opened the ring box and asked for her to marry me. She looked shocked, and her first reaction was to ask.... "Really?". I confirmed that I was actually proposing, and that anything other than really would be a great answer right now. She said yes, and I slipped the ring on her finger. We meandered back to the porch where her Mother, Father, and sister Alayna were waiting to hear the offical news and see the ring on her finger.

I feel the need to clear my name here. First, Adam kept challenging me to guess the date of when he would propose. I thought I was guessing the least likely times, but I guess my intuition is better than I thought. Lesson for Adam- Don't challenge me!
But Adam's plan to surprise me did work! I loved that it was romantic and private. I just wish I hadn't been wearing an old work shirt...

How we met
Friday June 11, 2010 was the opening day of an LDS Young Single Adults summit that was being held in Highland Utah. The sole purpose of this summit is for young single LDS people to meet and hopefully get married. Who would have thought it would work out so well?
Andrea and her friend Kristen went on a whim partially due to boredom and also because there would undoubtedly be some entertaining characters there. Adam went so he could flirt with a girl he had been mildly interested in, but one look at Andrea and that all changed.

The funny thing about how Adam and I met is that my friend Kristen and I went as a bit of a joke. We were sure there would be a lot of weirdo’s at the Young Single Adult Summit and we could just go and bask in the oddity of the evening. We had only been at the dance a few minutes when Adam came up and started talking to Kristen and one of her guy friends. I first noticed that he was tall- really tall, and he was wearing a shirt that had quite a bit of pink in it… I will admit I liked that he could wear pink.
Almost as soon as I noticed Adam I ended up talking to another guy while we waited in line for nacho’s and cotton candy. I kept sneaking glances at Adam who, much to my disappointment, seemed to be enjoying a conversation with some other girls. After waiting for far too long for mediocre nachos and truly terrible cotton candy we all went and stood in a hall to talk. I was happily munching on my food when I took a bite of the cotton candy and was instantly reminded of the horrible fluoride my dentist used to make me take. I turned to Adam and the very first thing I said to him was, “Taste this, it’s awful!” which he did, and agreed that it was, in fact, awful. From there we talked about movies and music, our jobs, my house. The conversation just flowed and I was having so much fun talking to him!
Kristen and I had plans to visit some friends in Salt Lake so we ended up leaving the dance a bit early. One of Adam and Kristen’s mutual friend Shane decided to join us. On our drive up to Salk Lake Shane told me a little bit about Adam, one of the things he pointed out was that he is 22 years old… having a 5 year age gap was definitely not ideal so I put him out of my mind and relinquished any thought of dating him.
The next night there was a comedy act and a dance at the church, the comedy act was just about to end when Adam came to sit with us. I was happy to see him even though I was determined that nothing would happen between us. We had a good time dancing and an even better time mocking the hip-hop dance troupe that had come. We danced most slow songs and I started to get the feeling that he was interested in me. We had such a good time together that when he asked for my number I figured that at the very least we would have a good time hanging out, and we have! It has been such a fun and wild ride dating Adam. It makes me wonder if the people who put together the YSA summit have any idea what a success that weekend was for us!

I had just gotten back from vacation in Chicago the day before, and wanted to relax and veg out all weekend, but I kept getting this urge to check out the YSA summit Friday night. I decided to give in; I knew a few friends would be there, so I would grace the summit with my presence for a few minutes. Shortly after arriving, I bumped into my friend Shane and we walked around for a while to see if there was anything fun when we bumped into a few of his friends. One of whom was a beautiful blonde that stood out of the crowd like a diamond in a coal mine.
I knew I couldn’t approach her immediately, it would seem too desperate and obvious, and she was already talking to some chump anyway. I decided my best bet was to start talking with her friend Kristen. After a few minutes of making sure that this elusive beauty was within my line of sight, Andrea, her chump conversation companion, Shane, Kristen and I wandered over to get food. While eating, Andrea wandered close, her chump not far behind continuing their conversation.
I wasn’t picking up that she had any interest in the slightest, but she decided to rather forcefully make me try her disgusting cotton candy. I eagerly obliged, hoping that this would spark a conversation and I could have a chance with her. It worked. We ended up talking the remainder of our time at the summit. Andrea was so kind in inviting me to their movie night, but I didn’t want to come off as overly excited, so I declined hoping I would see her the next night at the summit.
Saturday night at the summit I showed up to the activity a few minutes late, everyone was already seated listening to the comedy show. I meandered around each gym door entrance, trying to find where she could be sitting until I saw her...and her giant black rimmed glasses. It took me a few minutes to realize I was looking at the same girl I had talked to the night before. I moved closer, and then joined Andrea, Kristen and their friends on the chairs. She was able to pull off the glasses quite well, I was drawn to her just as much as the night before, but she seemed quite a bit less interested in me. Normally I would veer off, and leave things be, but I had to have a chance. Something about her was intoxicating, the night before I couldn’t stop thinking about her. I had been messaging Shane questions trying to “figure her out”, and she never left my mind until I was able to see her again Saturday. So, I proceeded to talk, and flirt a bit, trying not to single her out too much. I took my first slow dance with her friend Kristen, thinking this would give me some sort of upper hand. I was wrong; Andrea had complete control the entire time. We ended up sharing every slow dance the rest of the night, except for one which I had previously promised to a friend.
By the end of the dance, I had to see her again, and was trying to pick the perfect time to ask for her number. After the police and fire department ruined any possible moment we could have had, I slipped the question in as we were walking toward our cars. She didn’t seem eager to hand it over, but all I cared was that I got it.
I had no idea that the small, chance meeting would be the beginning of the best times of my life, and that Andrea was the woman I would very shortly fall in love with, and want to begin an Eternal Life with.
